Compared with traditional electric flat cars, modern electric flat cars have the following characteristics:

1. High speed: the maximum design speed of modern electric flat cars is generally 20-40 km/h higher than that of traditional electric rail cars.

2. Low noise: in the past, ordinary wheels were used, while the damping spring of the suspension system between the car body and the bogie was plate spring, with poor damping performance and high wheel-rail noise; Modern electric rail cars generally use elastic wheels and air spring suspension, so they have good damping performance and low noise.

3. High comfort: modern electric rail cars have good damping performance, low noise and high comfort.

4. AC drive is adopted for electric traction: because AC asynchronous motor has the advantages of small size, light weight, easy maintenance and few faults, and the miniaturization of traction device is conducive to installation on urban rail vehicles with relatively compact overall layout. At present, urban rail vehicles in developed countries have completed the transition from DC traction to AC traction, while China's electric traction field is in the transition stage from DC traction to AC traction. Compared with the trunk railway vehicles, the requirements for the braking device of urban rail vehicles have many things in common, that is, not only safe and reliable, flexible operation, but also low manufacturing and repair costs. However, urban rail vehicles are characterized by short distance between stations, frequent starting and braking, fast starting, short braking distance and large passenger flow fluctuation. At the same time, it shall also have the performance of maintaining basically the same vehicle braking rate under various passenger capacities. So it is different from the trunk railway vehicles, and its braking mode generally adopts the pneumatic-electric combined braking mode, which is mainly electric braking and supplemented by air braking.
